About me

I’m Carrie and I’m based in York, UK. I started CRS Proofreading in 2012 and since then I have worked as a copyeditor and proofreader with clients from around the world. I am an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and a Consultant Copyeditor for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Prior to this, I worked for nine years as a Research Fellow and then as a Lecturer in Sociology and Social Research Methods. I have a BA Hons in Philosophy and Sociology and a Masters with distinction in Social Development.

I have extensive experience of copyediting and proofreading, from books, journal articles, research notes, policy briefs and reports, to theses, dissertations, newsletters, handbooks and personal documents such as letters of application and CVs. I also keep up-to-date with CPD and training via the CIEP. My background in research and teaching gives me an excellent understanding of the importance of well-crafted texts and the journey that writers travel, from initial idea to publication. I am published in peer-reviewed academic books and journals, alongside having authored book reviews, research reports, bids and diverse publications for a wide range of audiences.

I am happy to help across a wide range of text types, and topics and subjects with a social sciences focus, and enjoy working on diverse projects, large and small.
